PROGRAM REPORT

Crews work on a wide range of projects including trail building and maintenance, riparian restoration, stream bank stabilization, wildlife habitat improvement, invasive species control, and natural resource inventories. The program has a strong educational component that includes project-related natural science lessons, journal writing, group discussion and a self-directed learning project presented to the public at the end-of-season celebration.

The Corps' summer work season runs from mid-June through mid-August and length of employment varies between six and eight weeks depending upon the crew. In the recent years the work season has extended to include projects in both spring and fall. Many of the crew leader and assistant crew leader positions on summer crews are now filled by young people who have worked their way up through the program.
