Corps Group 2015

The NorthWoods Conservation Corps completed a busy 6-week summer field season on Friday August 7 with a gathering of ten crews from throughout New England. Eighty-six young people participated in the Corps this season–the largest in many years. Crews operated up and down the Connecticut River Valley and in remote corners of Vermont and New Hampshire- improving wildlife habitats, building and maintaining trails, and increasing access to our natural areas.
To cap off the tremendous work of the season, the crews participated in the annual Field Day Competition–a series of lumberjack-style events intended to build community and foster friendly competition. The events were followed by a potluck luncheon and open house where family, friends, and project partners sharing stories and looking at educational projects completed by each participant. A culminating ceremony included crew presentations, a number of special recognitions and awards, and a fond farewell to this year’s participants.

Special thanks goes to our major partners– the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Vermont Agency of Natural Resources — who supported the program through grants, contracts and project supervision.
