Level 3- Saturday, September 7, Level 4 - Sunday, September 8 Cost: $220 per level Ready to step up your chainsaw game? Levels 3 and 4 give experienced sawyers the skills to deal with challenging trees and hazardous situations in the woods. Level 3 focuses on trees with heavy lean, compression/tension, and limbing/bucking techniques. Level 4 shows you how to deal with hung-up trees, and may include winching, rope use, harvest pre-planning, or other topics, depending on the group interests. GOL: Hands-on Learning and Competition in the Woods

This past weekend we hosted our annual spring Game of Logging workshop at NorthWoods. The Game of Logging (GOL) is a chainsaw skills and safety training curriculum developed in the 1960s by Swedish logger and instructor Soren Eriksson, focusing on small hands-on group learning and friendly competition to instill successful chainsaw techniques, felling strategies and safety practices. Women Can Do 2013

This year, as we have done for the past two years, Cody and I shared the pleasures and pitfalls of working with chainsaws with about 60 girls who will be Vermont’s next generation of fierce workforce women. This year, to our surprise and delight, the weather was perfect - crisp enough that we knew it was fall, but sunny enough that we could get away with wearing t-shirts.
