Judy Bevans holds a Master’s degree in exercise science from Southern Connecticut State University. Her 30 year career was that of private fitness coach, and adjunct teacher at SUNY, Old Westbury, NY. She and her late husband moved to Vermont in 1990, and built a small fitness center in the NEK, Coachworks Farm.

Past board service in Vermont includes: the Clarina Howard Nichols Center, which provides shelter and services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence; the Planned Parenthood PAC; Vermont Conservation Voters; and Emerge, a training and mentoring organization for women who are contemplating running for public office. She is a member of the executive committee of the Vermont Democratic Party.

Currently, Judy chairs the Orleans County Democratic Party. She served as State Party Vice Chair for several years, and was the State Party Chair from March, 2009 – September 2011. From 2011 until June 2014, Judy worked at Sterling College as the Director of Advancement/Government relations.

Judy’s passion is fund raising for the sustainability of worthy organizations. She was involved in the fund raising efforts of every board on which she has served. She has attended trainings and workshops in philanthropy geared toward non-profit organizations, some sponsored by the Vermont Community Foundation, and some organized for specific board service. She has taken part in trainings geared to political fund raising through Democracy for America and EMILY’S List, and has led several fund raising workshops and phone bank trainings to several non-profit organizations in the NEK.

Judy lives in Albany, Vermont with her fur family of six cats and her Yorkshire Terrier, Tess, who is her constant companion. Judy’s active pursuits include walking, cross country skiing and biking, and her more quiet activities are reading, baking, and listening to Broadway show tunes and opera.
