Did you know that you can help protect them just by writing down what you see? New or experienced butterfly watchers alike can join the Vermont Center for Ecostudies and the NorthWoods Stewardship Center to learn how to contribute to the Second Vermont Butterfly Atlas. In this 3 hour free workshop\, you will learn how to identify local butterfly species\, how to use community science tools like eButterfly and iNaturalist\, get tips and tricks on photographing butterflies and more. \nRegister HereRefreshments provided\, bring your own lunch. Bring a phone/laptop/tablet for data entry\, a camera (if different from phone)\, and a pair of binoculars (we have extra if needed). \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 7- Sunday\, June 8\, 8am-4:30pm \nCost: $225 \nBring your own lunch. \nJoin us for a SOLO Wilderness First Aid Course. Accidents happen. People get hurt\, sick\, or lost. The temperature drops\, the wind picks up\, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable\, and even when bad things happen\, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills\, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one—and maybe even save a life. \nWFA is the perfect course for everyone\, including the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family\, friends\, and outdoor groups. The SOLO WFA Course meets the American Camping Association (ACA) guidelines. \nThe WFA course is 16 hours long (two days)\, and focuses on the basic skills of: Response and Assessment\, Musculoskeletal Injuries\, Environmental Emergencies\, Survival Skills\, Soft Tissue Injuries\, and Medical Emergencies. \n  \nRegister Here\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 3\, 8am-12pm \nFor Kids – FREE \nTwo registration time slots: 8-10am and 10am-noon. \nSpring is here! Join us for the Shane Copp Annual Youth Fishing Day! This event is an opportunity for kids and families to try their luck in catching (and keeping up to 2) recently stocked brook and brown trout. Let’s Go Fishing Instructors will share anglers’ tips and techniques. The fishing is for the kids\, but parent supervision is required and participation encouraged. Bait provided. Barbless hooks required; we’ll have extras here. (note – you can make a barbless hook from a barbed hook with a set of pliers!). If you’d like to bring a catch home\, bring a cooler and a ziploc bag. DESCRIPTION:Choose your weekend! \nSpring Training: April 25-27 at Northwoods Stewardship Center\, East Charleston\, VT\nFall Training: September 12-14 Kehoe Conservation Camp\, Castleton\, VT \nIf you love your woodlands\, enjoy seeing wildlife and want to learn how a healthy forest can enhance wildlife habitat\, provide recreational and timber benefits this weekend is for you! Learn about managing your woodlands and reaching out to others in your community by attending. This program connects you with resource professionals\, landowners and others while learning how you can improve your woodlands. Contact Lisa Sausville lisa@vtcoverts.org with questions. \nPlease note a $100 deposit is required to hold your spot and is refundable upon request at completion of the Training. In exchange\, participants agree to fully participate in the Training and to share information on forest management with others in the coming years as part of a neighbor-to-neighbor network. Food and lodging provided in a camp or dorm like setting. \nVermont Coverts is a peer-to-peer community of landowners\, professionals and others learning from and supporting each other to enhance wildlife habitats through sound forest management.
