Jessica Colby knew from a young age that she wanted to work in conservation. She grew up enjoying time spent out in the woods behind her house, discovering all the different plants and animals that could be found there. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor\u2019s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and a minor in Forestry. While in school, Jess was an active member of the UVM Fish and Wildlife Society, volunteering extensively with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department for several events including the annual deer check during the opening weekends of hunting season and the annual Free Ice Fishing Day. To date, she\u2019s put in just under 200 hours of volunteer time among several wildlife-focused projects in both Vermont and New Hampshire!<\/p>\n

The majority of her experience has been focused on riparian land restoration and inland fisheries conservation work in both Vermont and New Hampshire. She has worked for many local organizations including Trout Unlimited, New Hampshire Fish and Game, The Nature Conservancy, Essex County Natural Resources Conservation District, and Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation Department. Jess is incredibly excited to be back with NorthWoods since her first environmental job was as a YCC crew member for the Pondicherry crew in 2013!<\/p>\n

In her free time, Jess loves skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, reading, volunteering on *any* wildlife-related project with VFWD or NHFG, and spending time with her family \u2013 especially her adorable niece and nephew.<\/p>\n
