Successful candidates receive a bi-weekly wage plus hands-on education and employment experience. Members must be willing to meet the challenges of working outdoors by demonstrating maturity, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic. A commitment to the environment and to their local communities is essential. Our priority projects at Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge will focus on creating engaging outdoor experiences, including the development of the Sense of Wonder Trail, Nature Play Elements, Pollinator Gardens, and a Pet Memorial, while exploring recreational opportunities like fishing, kayaking, hiking, archery, and participation in the Junior Ranger Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">APEX Youth Connection will also bring exciting opportunities to the table, including the upkeep of the local pump track, the construction of bat houses and caterpillar houses, pollinator and vegetable garden expansion and participation in the Earn-a-Bike program. These hands-on projects will provide youth with valuable skills while engaging them in meaningful conservation work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Location: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rachel Carson NWR and Apex Youth Connections (Wells, Maine and Biddeford, Maine)<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Project season locations:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rachel Carson NWR , <\/span>321 Port Road, Wells, ME 04090<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apex Youth Connections, <\/span>45 Granite Street, Biddeford, ME, 04005<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Duties:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work alongside 2-3 other crew members while completing priority conservation projects<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respond to and work with the leadership team in a respectful and productive manner<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promote a safe work environment for fellow crew members and the public<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm to learn more about conservation and natural resource management<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates should possess, at a minimum, the following:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interest in developing skills and experience in natural resource conservation and management<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commitment to protecting and improving the quality of the environment for human and natural communities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ability to work responsibly and cooperatively as a member of a team<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capable of performing strenuous physical labor under variety of outdoor conditions (ie. Summer heat, bugs, rain etc)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates must be at least 15 years old by June 23, 2025<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Please consider applying for this position even if you do not meet all the qualifications, or currently possess the preferred skills and knowledge.
