With the goal of improving water quality throughout the\u00a0watershed, the NorthWoods Stewardship Center is coordinating\u00a0two projects, in partnership with the Orleans County Natural\u00a0Resources Conservation District (OCNRCD), called the\u00a0Memphremagog Watershed Lakeshore Buffering Program and\u00a0Trees for Streams Memphremagog.<\/p>\n

Both programs are grant-funded and designed to provide cost-shared tree and shrub planting options for landowners with water\u00a0frontage, be it stream, river, or lake. Buffering shoreline reduces\u00a0the amount of runoff into lakes and streams, which improves\u00a0water quality and reduces the threat of algae blooms. In addition,\u00a0shoreline plantings help anchor the banks, reducing the amount of\u00a0property lost to erosion.<\/p>\n

We are currently reaching out to find landowners with\u00a0unbuffered bank or shoreline who are interested in partnering with\u00a0NorthWoods and the OCNRCD to create a shoreline buffer on\u00a0their land.
