\"P1000300\"The NorthWoods Conservation Corps recently completed its Spring Tree planting projects. A total of 4,138 trees and shrubs were planted on 13.75 acres of riparian buffer. Planting of trees and shrubs along streams, rivers, lakes and ponds provides a variety of beneficial results including slowing erosion, filtering pollutants, lowering maintaining water temperatures and providing both aquatic and terrestrial habitat. Projects were completed on Leach Stream and the Connecticut River in Canaan Vermont, the Black River in Coventry Vermont and the Ompompanoosic River in West Fairlee, Vermont. A number of partners and a variety of funding sources made these projects feasible, and include the Essex County Conservation District, the White River Natural Resource Conservation District, the Natural Resource Conservation Service, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, private landowners, and volunteers.<\/p>\n
