NorthWoods receives grant from the Vermont Community Foundation to Train Citizen Scientists\u00a0<\/strong>to Study Area Reptiles and Amphibians<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"paintedThe NorthWoods Stewardship Center recently received a $2,060 grant from the Vermont\u00a0Community Foundation\u2019s Small and Inspiring grant program. The grant will help further\u00a0NorthWood\u2019s mission of \u201cconnecting people and place through science, education, and action.\u201d According to NorthWoods Operations Director Jayson Benoit, \u201cpeople are usually surprised to hear\u00a0how little is known about populations of even the most common reptile and amphibian species in\u00a0northeastern Vermont, like garter snake and painted turtle. Conservation can\u2019t happen without basic\u00a0knowledge and citizen scientists can provide this knowledge, while also having fun and learning.\u201d<\/p>\n

The free half-day training will be taught by Vermont reptile and amphibian expert Jim Andrews and\u00a0will take place on Sunday, July 26th at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston. Through its Small and Inspiring grants program, the Community Foundation hopes to help foster\u00a0the spark and hope that keeps Vermonters healthy and happy by finding and supporting projects\u00a0where a small grant can make a big difference.<\/p>\n
