The NorthWoods Stewardship Center is pleased to announce that Allen Yale of Derby, VT will receive the 7th annual George Buzzell Forest Stewardship Award. The award is given to a person who has made significant contributions to sustainable forestry and education in the Northeast Kingdom.<\/p>\n

For decades, Yale has demonstrated his commitment to sustainable forest management and education. His career as a high school teacher and college professor, combined with experience managing his own woodland in Derby, VT have led Yale to become a dedicated volunteer, working closely with North Country Career Center students on projects and hosting numerous workshops for local forest landowners.<\/p>\n

Yale has volunteered with the Orleans County Historical Society, NCCC Natural Resources Advisory Committee, Vermont Tree Farm Program, Vermont Coverts, NorthWoods Stewardship Center Board of Directors, and other organizations. He was recognized as the 2012 Vermont Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year and 2013 US Regional Tree Farmer of the Year, and is a regular contributor to the Vermont Woodlands Association\u2019s quarterly newsletter. Various community building projects including the NorthWoods Stewardship Center\u2019s wood boiler shed, Old Stone House\u2019s timber framed barn, and Dailey Memorial Library\u2019s photovoltaic gazebo have used sawn timber donated from Yale\u2019s woodlot.<\/p>\n

Above all, says NorthWoods Director of Forest Stewardship Sam Perron, \u201cYale\u2019s work shows dedication, generosity and a passion for shared learning, reflecting the spirit that George Buzzell brought to his community.\u201d<\/p>\n

An award ceremony will be held at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center on Tuesday, March 31st from 6-7pm, and all are invited to attend.
