We know from experience that many of our supporters think carrying heavy things through the woods is a fun time. If your interest is piqued – you are in luck: we have another opportunity for you!
The NorthWoods Youth Conservation Corps will be working with the Nulhegan Basin Silvio O Conte National Fish & Wildlife Refuge staff to replace a bridge on the North Branch Trail.
NorthWoods is seeking volunteers to carry bridge material from the North Branch Trailhead to the project site – about 1.5 mi (one-way) on a relatively flat trail. Pressure treated lumber sizes will vary from 5ft 6x6s, decking and other materials. No load too small – and we recommend not taking any loads too large.
Please RSVP to: Maria Young [email protected], 723-6551 x305
Meet: Monday, June 22, 9:30 am at the North Branch Trailhead.
Directions to trailhead: From the west, travel 7.3 miles east of Brighton (Island Pond) on VT-105. The trailhead and parking area will be on the left.
Bring: Water, Snacks, Lunch if you plan to do more than 1 carry
Wear: Hiking boots, gloves
Optional: hiking backpack with straps* *many elect to carry supplies in hand
Thank you to the many who have lent helping hands and muscles to help carry heavy things in the past to help keep recreational access open and sustainable!
