Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University brought Courtney’s family to the USA when she was quite young. Running feral through the woods and red clay of Alabama and being surrounded by outdoor professionals inspired her love of the outdoors and all creatures found within.

Courtney graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors in Wildlife Ecology and Management in 2020. She worked with many different species over the years at different institutions, taking care of animals. Her last job was working at Virginia Tech’s College of Veterinary Medicine, but she missed the outdoors and working with the general public. This desire to return to the woods and become a better outdoor educator led to her pursuing her Masters in Conservation Education at Mississippi State University with an expected completion date in 2027. These skill sets of working with animals, a passion for the outdoors, and outdoor education skills made her a great candidate for joining the NorthWoods family. She moved up with her partner, 4 cats, and a snake in the early spring of 2026.

Outside of work Courtney can often be found out in the woods or equally on the couch watching a show with her partner and at minimum 2 cats. She often spends time with her friends at live music venues crowd surfing to some of her favorite artists. She can also be found playing a good board game, some D&D, or putting silly hats on her cats. Her favorite Dinosaur is Diplodocus since everyone should have a favorite dinosaur.
