Mid-Winter Edition Its official! Mid-winter is here! And boy you would know it by looking outside. The thermometer is hovering well below freezing and the snow continues to pile up. The backcountry is filling in beautifully and the groomed trails are superb! Whether you are out on the trails here at NorthWoods, at Kingdom Trails, Memphremagog Trails, Mt. VCF Grant Supports NorthWoods Ski Programs

The NorthWoods Community and Mother Nature teamed up to start the year with a better-than-ever ski season here at the Center. In winter, cross-country skis are THE vehicle for outdoor study and exploration, but our equipment had been in poor repair. So Far, So Great! The snow keeps coming and, even though we were spared the brunt of the recent Nor'easter, the inches are adding up to feet. As mid-winter approaches, our snowbase is a solid 24 inches and I think it's safe to say we no longer have 'early season conditions'. Program host Lawrence Pyne explores the trail building process while hiking the new Middle Mountain Trail being built by the NorthWoods Conservation Corps Backcountry Crew in the remote forests of Avery's Gore. The program demonstrates how multiple partners, including NorthWoods Stewardship Center, Green Mountain Club, Vermont Forest, Parks and Recreation and Plum Creek Timber Company have come together to develop trails on the Kingdom Heritage Lands in far northeastern Vermont. Androscoggin River Steward

The famed Androscoggin River with its rich history of log drives and sporting camps flows south east out of Umbagog Lake in Errol, NH through numerous communities of the New England before entering the Kennebunk River at Merrymeeting Bay in Maine. Winter-Water-Woods Art Exhibition

A Winter-Water-Woods-themed exhibit by 26 Vermont artists will celebrate NorthWood’s 26th year of natural resource stewardship. Winter, Water, and/or Woods are depicted in paintings, ceramics, photography, wood carvings, sculptures, piano improvisations and mixed media. Come to the opening reception at the center, 4-6 p.m. Sunday February 22.  Meet the artists, expand your vision and treat your ears. (No fee, no reservation necessary.)
