Corps Hiring for 2013 Summer Season

The NorthWoods Conservation Corps is now hiring Crew Leaders (ages 20+), Assistant Crew Leaders (ages 18+), and Crewmembers (ages 14-20) for its 2013 summer season! The application deadline is April 1st. Each year the Kingdom Corps employs a staff of motivated, mature, and skilled team leaders to run its summer crews. Crew Leaders are chosen for their ability to effectively coordinate and challenge their crews. They must demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, a solid work ethic and a positive and inspirational attitude. NorthWoods Heating Plant Destroyed in Blaze

Over Thanksgiving weekend, flames engulfed the NorthWoods' Boiler Shed. Thanks to a rapid response from the Charleston Fire Department, the blaze was contained but not before destroying our new wood-fired boiler, back-up oil furnace and much of our winter wood supply. Thankfully, no one was injured and the blaze did not spread to the main building or nearby tractor shed. The fire struck just as the long winter heating season is beginning. Congratulations 2012 Summer Conservation Corps!

Members of the 2012 Corps gathered at NorthWoods on August 3rd and 4th to celebrate a successful summer of habitat restoration, invasive plant control, and trail building. The end of season gathering is a tradition for the NorthWoods Conservation Corps which has been in operation since 1995.  At Friday’s Field Day, crews competed in team and skill challenges like Wheelbarrow Races, Tug-of-War, and Spike Drive. Mapping the Upper Clyde River Watershed

The Upper Clyde River wetlands are exceptional in terms of their diversity of natural communities and the many rare plant species found here. These wetlands also contribute to overall water quality by absorbing flood waters and filtering sediment and nutrient inputs from the surrounding uplands. In coordination with VT Agency of Natural Resources, NVDA, and area landowners, NorthWoods has completed a two-year mapping project of the upper wetlands, issuing the Clyde River Wetlands Natural Community Mapping Project Final Report.
