Happy Birthday Northwoods! While we celebrate 29 years of commitment to the care and well-being of Northern Forest communities, our steward“ship” does not stop here. On the contrary, the needs of our human and natural communities are greater than ever before. On this occasion, NorthWoods is revamping its “ship”, strengthening itself to further meet the needs of the present and for generations to come.

NorthWoods is delighted to welcome Jonathan Gilbert as our new Executive Director. He joined our team of stewards with the necessary skills to strengthen and further our organizational goals and mission. Originally from Quebec and now 20 years in Vermont, Jonathan’s commitment to promote a healthy society based on harmonious relationships between people and the land is his passion. Co-founder of Heartbeet Lifesharing in Hardwick VT, he comes with a vast range of life experiences in community building. His love for the earth, the land, the people and the local community will bring wind to our sails for the journey ahead.

“Healing takes time, and as for the Earth, lots of damage has been and still is being done each day. All people have the capacity for love and compassion, the care for each other must be the starting point and together, through respecting the land, mutual healing can unfold. I am honored to merge my journey with the NorthWoods community and to deepen my relationship with the land and the northern forest as the stage for healing. NorthWoods is blessed with amazing staff, trustees and volunteers who commit their time and energy to consciously practice stewardship. Alongside our partners and constituents,  I look forward to meeting these challenges together and caring for what we love: the people, the land, and our communities.” says Gilbert.

“We are very excited to welcome Jonathan to the NorthWoods community. His leadership skills and communication style bring a new rhythm and focus to the organization. Jonathan approaches tasks with enthusiasm and a sense of humor, seeing opportunities to build relationships and collaborations. NorthWoods continues to provide outstanding education programs and strong leadership and services in conservation and forestry; and Jonathan is the right person to lead the organization into its 30th year.” says NorthWoods board president Cathie Wheeler.
