Think the weather’s been a little funny lately? According to climate change predictions, we’d better get used to it! NorthWoods forestry staff took that to heart and recently completed the Forest Adaptation Planning and Practices training presented by the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science, US Forest Service, and USDA Northern Forests Climate Hub.

During the seven-week program, we became well versed in the predicted climate impacts in northern Vermont and used the online NIACS Adaptation Workbook to create an action plan for the Lydia Spitzer Demonstration Forest at NorthWoods. Using the information gleaned from this course we’ll be adding NorthWoods to the NIACS website’s nationwide database of demonstration projects- stay tuned! In the meantime, check out our overview slides and the full Adaptation Workbook report.

If you own forestland and wonder how to plan for climate change, we can help! Our forestry staff can make a custom plan for your property and goals. We also have FREE copies of Increasing Forest Resiliency for an Uncertain Future (pictured), a starter guide to forests and climate change in New England; swing by NorthWoods to pick one up!
