Second Vermont Butterfly Atlas Volunteer Workshop

Searching for Amphibians in the Demonstration Forest

Earlier this month, the Sustainable Forestry Interns took a break from running chainsaws to join herpetologist Jim Andrews on his search to document the species currently found in Vermont, town by town. The day we met Jim, he was on a mission to document some of the species thought to be living in Morgan, VT. Knotweed Photo Volunteers Wanted

The NorthWoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston Vermont, and the Upper Connecticut River Watershed Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (UCCISMA) are seeking volunteers to take some photos! We need people who are willing to visit our identified Japanese Knotweed treatment sites to take GPS points and photo points so we can have have documentation of pre-treatment and post-treatment conditions. There are sites in both northern New Hampshire and northeastern Vermont, all within the Upper Connecticut River Watershed. Some sites are accessible by car while others require a short walk or canoe. NorthWoods Recieves VCF Grant for Citizen Science Study

NorthWoods receives grant from the Vermont Community Foundation to Train Citizen Scientists to Study Area Reptiles and Amphibians The NorthWoods Stewardship Center recently received a $2,060 grant from the Vermont Community Foundation’s Small and Inspiring grant program. The grant will help further NorthWood’s mission of “connecting people and place through science, education, and action.” According to NorthWoods Operations Director Jayson Benoit, “people are usually surprised to hear how little is known about populations of even the most common reptile and amphibian species in northeastern Vermont, like garter snake and painted turtle. Wanted: Citizen Science Volunteers!

If you are a science-minded and outdoor-loving individual, NorthWoods needs your help! We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to help conduct our annual Survivability Study on the trees we've planted in riparian zones in the Memphremagog watershed for the past three springs. Surveys will consist of measuring, photographing and recording data on small trees and shrubs at planting sites throughout the watershed.
