Winter Trails Prep at Willoughby State Forest

Sunday, November 9, 8:45am-1pm Do you love spending time in the Willoughby State Forest on skis or snowshoes? We know it is a favorite network for many locals and visitors. NorthWoods Stewardship Center contracts with the State of Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation to groom the ski and snowshoe trails in Willoughby State Forest. Second Vermont Butterfly Atlas Volunteer Workshop

Saturday, June 21 10-2pm Butterflies are in your garden, along your hiking trails, and even along the side of the road. Did you know that you can help protect them just by writing down what you see? New or experienced butterfly watchers alike can join the Vermont Center for Ecostudies and the NorthWoods Stewardship Center to learn how to contribute to the Second Vermont Butterfly Atlas. Searching for Amphibians in the Demonstration Forest

Earlier this month, the Sustainable Forestry Interns took a break from running chainsaws to join herpetologist Jim Andrews on his search to document the species currently found in Vermont, town by town. The day we met Jim, he was on a mission to document some of the species thought to be living in Morgan, VT. After driving to the NorthWoods Demonstration Forest access in Morgan, we gathered with Jim and two volunteers to hear our goal for the day. NorthWoods' flowerbeds benefit insects and birds and provide a beautiful backdrop for school programs, camps and community events. We rely on volunteer help to keep them looking their best.
