March 30 - Grooming operations have concluded at Willoughby State Forest, NorthWoods, and Dashney Nordic Center. It was a stellar season, and we hope many of you had a chance to enjoy the snow and these beautiful networks. Many thanks to our partners (Burke Mountain and the State of Vermont) and especially to the hard work of the groomers - Dusty May, Blase Saucedo, Charles Hill and Barrett Nichols. Willoughby State Forest Weekly Trails Update All the trails have been groomed as of 1/14/2018, which include the Little Loop, Middle Loop, Bartlett Loop, the Connector trail, the CCC road and the Bartlett Mountain Rd. Tracks are set on the Little and Middle loops along with the two roads. The warm temps and rain will not stop us this time! NorthWoods Staff Lead Sterling College Backcountry Course

Sterling College's Winter Intensive provides students with the opportunity to dig deep into a subject, and only that subject, for two straight weeks. For students in my course, while the snowpack was on the thin side, we certainly dug in to backcountry skiing in Vermont. We found snow in likely places when we left the lowlands, and reached the summits of Mt. While honoring the old ways is part of what we do at NorthWoods, we are also ready to embrace new technology to reach a new goal. For winter 2015, our goal is to provide easier access to more people to the outdoors, and specifically to the NorthWoods outdoors, in a medium of winter travel that suits the landscape and all sorts of outdoor enthusiasts. New Partnership with VT Backcountry Alliance

With winter right around the corner, NorthWoods is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Vermont Backcountry Alliance -- a working group of the Catamount Trail Association (CTA) dedicated to advancing responsible backcountry skiing and snowboarding in Vermont. With a strong tradition of nordic and backcountry skiing programs, NorthWoods will lend its northern perspective to this emerging group and help raise awareness for backcountry management issues across the northern tier of Vermont.
